One of the main landmark in Reykjavik is the amazing Hallgrímskirkja church. But kirkja means church in Icelandic. It is not only that it stands high in the city center with a unique structure, but it is also 74.5 meters high and is imperative for people in Iceland.

The church is named after one of the most famous poets and priests in Icelandic history, Hallgrímur Pétursson (1614-1674). Too, in the church are world famous pipe orgel, very impressive to see it.

Hallgrímur Pétursson was born the year 1614. He is, for sure, undoubtedly the most famous religious poet in Iceland. His most famous work is The Passíusálmar (Hymns of passion), which is the collection of 50 poetic texts. The books explore the narrative, as traditionally presented, from the point where Christ enters the Garden of Gethsemane to his death and burial. On Easter each year it´s vital for many Icelanders to go and listen to the Passíusálmar which is read in many churches. Hymns of passion were first printed 1666 and have now been published over ninety times.

As we mention before, in the church are world famous pipe orgel. It´s very impressive to see it. It has electronic action, the Pipes being remote from the four manuals and pedal console. There are 102 ranks, 72 stops, and 5275 pipes! As you can image, it´s very visual in the church with its 25 tons weight and 15 meters tall! It was dedicated 1992. It´s absolute fantastic concert instruments and famous between organist all over the world.

To have great the Pipe Orgel even better, the pipe Orgel have portable organ board which has been very useful, and beautiful at the same time.

There is another orgel in the church; ten stops choir orgel which was dedicated in December 1985.
